Lesson Objectives
Consider various forms of media (origins of radio and resurgence of podcasts).
Actively listen to an episode of a podcast.
Reflect on emotional response and impact a podcast from a penitentiary can have on inciting change for people who may otherwise hold preconceived notions of those incarcerated.
Materials Needed
Audio
Introductory Lesson (PowerPoint)
Students will need access to computer/cellphone for research.
Speakers to listen to episode.
Activities
Intro: Research the history of radio communication as a form of media.
Through: Listen to the episode as a class. The teacher should pause to discuss and clarify as necessary. Students complete reflection.
Beyond: Share feedback with class. Reflect on the greater impact of a podcast produced in a penitentiary setting.
